What do the think the best engine that VW makes or has made for overall purpose, and best for tuning, and the best stock engine?

what do you think about the 24v vr6 its powerful, and it gets decent gas mileage

Its the fastest of the stock engines but there are many more ways to tweek a turbo for tuning purposes. If you can afford to slap a turbo on a vr6 then hold on to your seat.
