Default Spark Lead Issue

When Spark lead is removed do the leads need putting back in the same place????
Because i have removed my spark leads and now that i have replaced them my car
is making a funny sound when trying to start up...car was working fine before.......

I would be grateful for any help...

Yes they should go in the same place. The firing order on the engine should be 1, 2, 3, 4 from the left. If there aren't numbers on your distributer you'll have to get a repair manual unless someone on here knows your firing order.
