I've got an 88 Jetta Slalom, and the shift boot (rubber accordian type) is extremely worn out. When cleaning the interior, I pulled up the shift boot to clean in all the creases and saw that a LOT of crud has ended up in there over however many years it's had holes in it (it was already ripped when I bought the car, and it's been a family vehicle - kids, pets - all it's life). I'm talking sand, bits of food, hair, you name it, all mixed in nice with the axle grease. I'm going to replace the boot, but when I do, I want to get it nice and clean in there first. So, what's the proper procedure for that?

Also, would shops have new boots that fit an 88 Jetta? Or am I better off finding something online? Is $20-25 more than I would pay for a new boot in a shop? Anything I should know about replacing the boot?

The cooler the temperature less would be the demand on the air conditioners. This in turn reduces the usage of electricity, and there by saving the resources.
