rebuild trouble
I have recently installed a newly rebuilt engine (that I rebuilt following a book) but I can't figure out why the timing is so far off that adjusting the distributor doesn't help...It is an 1980 air cooled 2-liter engine...I feel pretty positive I was careful enough in setting the valve timing during building that it is something else entirely...I am afraid the offiical manual assumes that I have more mechanical knowledge and skills than I possess and is of no help in trouble shooting. When I first turned over the engine, I got it to run by loosening the collar on the distributor and rotating it until it couldn't go any further due to the injector on the intake of the fuel system...I haven't replaced the vaccuum hoses yet, but it didn't run any differently when I swapped some and trimmed some...Since I don't have the money to pay someone to help I am hoping to get some input here...thanks in advance for a reply.
