Default Major electrical failure!! Help please!!

I just bought a 2002 GTI Turbo about a month ago. Everything has been running very smooth with the car until here recently. I drove the car from my hometown, Mountain Home, AR to Camden, AR. The trip from Mountain Home to Camden is about a 260 mile drive (about 5 hours). The car drove PERFECT coming down. But on the way back home, I stopped in Little Rock, AR to get gas. I pulled up to the pump, shut the car off, filled the tank, paid (of course), got back in the car and started it up just to find out my lights wouldn't turn on (it was nearing dusk). I called my dad who's a mechanic, and he asked if anything else in the car isn't working. Soon I found out that my in addition to my headlights, my wipers, defrosters (back window), boost gauge (just the lamp in the gauge), blinkers, horn, and the blower to the A/C and heat won't work. BUT... I can flash my high beams by pulling back on the high beam lever and my hazard lights will work so I know it's not a bulb issue, right? HELP!

It sounds to me like an instrument panel issue. Try resetting the ECU by disconnecting your battery overnight.
