Default I Could Really Use Some Help!

I just bought a used 2007 Passat Wagon 2.0t with 103k miles on it and the only thing I've found wrong with it as of yet is a problem with the gauge cluster. The gauges all work (needles move) but they don't light up. The only light emitted from the instrument panel is the information panel it lights up and displays info like fuel consumption, range till empty, fasten seatbelt, etc. Why would the gauges not light up? And how do I fix it?
