Default Fuel Pump: Is it worth the $$$ for higher gallons per minute? (1999 Mark 3)

Engine died as if out of gas but it's not, fuel pump fuse is good and I am on my way to pick up a new relay. But the fuel gauge was always randomly failing I believe there's a short in the pump so am looking at el cheapos for @ 100, easily pay 2-3x times as much. Will my performance suffer from the lower flow rate of the cheaper versions? It's a standard that I drive up into the mountains a lot but don't know that there will be noticeable difference as the injectors limit the rate of fuel. Any thoughts?
