I have a 1985 golf diesel. I also have a small turbo from an eagle talon laying around. If i machine an exhaust manifold that incorporates the turbo/wastegate can i add this to the engine? If i have a egt guage will everything be ok? or is this a really bad idea? will a turbo increase fuel economy? or just performance?

Seems to me it would be better to get a kit that fits the
engine you have. The turbo your talking about may not have the correct boost for that diesel. A turbo is for adding
performance, when you do performance you usually loose
fuel miles, except in rare cases.
