Default bi-pass a/c

I have a 1990 Jetta , the bearing in the a/c compressor is bad and I just want to bi-pass it, that is run a belt from the alternator to another pulley but the alternator is set back too far for a belt to line up on anything but the a/c compressor, did a non a/c jetta have a different altenator pulley or what? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
