Default 2001 misfire

hey, i am fairly new to the world of vw, but none the less i have 2001 golf 1.8t and i am getting cel random misfire, and misfire cylinder #3, i put in new plugs, swapped coil for #2 and tried a new ign module, problem remains,
I'm not too sure what else to do other than bring it to a garage and pay them hourly to try different things, (which i am obviously trying to avoid)
any help will be greatly appreciated

thanx
james

hey guys, a little help would be awesome, i have checked everything related to a typical misfire problem and it persists to remain, i was reading somewhere that a firmware update may be the answer, any one ever hear of this?

Did you install the correct spark plugs? or did you install
some of those super plugs? If the car calls for a certain
plug you have to use it, the split fire, platum, and other
super plugs will cause a computer brain fart, if the specs
don't call for them.
