Tried installing a three-socket 12-volt adapter, but had trouble getting power to the unit.

I cut off the end to expose two wires, then grounded the wire with the white stripe and connected the black wire to the fuse box using an add-a-circuit. The fuse outlet I connected it to was for the horn on my '95 Golf, but the adapter would get power from it or any other fuse outlet I connected it to.
I even tried switching the wires thinking that the white stripe wire was the power, but to no avail.
If someone knows how to wire up and extra 12-volt adapter, I would appreciate assistance. Regards...
