Filter question on 1986 Vanagon

Filter question on 1986 Vanagon
I have a new-to-me 1986 Camper Van (gasoline) that needs either a new fuel filter or a new fuel pump. I'm starting with the filter. When I looked up the part on parts.vw.com, it showed me a fuel filter/oil filter. Are the VW filters from that era dual purpose? I want to make sure I get the right part.
