Do you have fuel and a good spark?

If you take the spark plugs out are they wet with petrol?

If you push a spark in an HT lead and let the spark plug body rest on the engine to earth, it someone cranks the engine is there a spark at the plugs?

Because you've only just had this car so you don't know how it ran before it could be a compression problem, buy yourself a petrol compression tester and test them. It should be 7-15 Bar (100-215 lbs/in).
