VW Passat 1,9TDi Aut. Var. 1999
Hi!
I own a 1999 Passat 1,9 TDi stationcar with automatic transmission, presently done 400.000 km and still running smoothly, one of the best cars we have ever owned. We have more or less decided to keep it, although my local dealer is trying to pursuade us to change.
As can be expected, major repairs is due to appear around now, and the converter in a/t,has started to rumble to a degree. Our dealer recommends that the converter should be changed, but also the gearbox. An enginechange is also discussed, although I cannot see why since both compression and other parameters seems ok and its "pullability" is as sprightly as before and no "black smoke" appears when igniting or running a bit hard.
Is there anyone of the VW-fiendsout there that would give me their views on the above? Should we change car or change "gear"?
Hope to hear from someone soon.
Regards
Harald
