VW accessories/options question

I recently had a 2003 VW Passat GLX V6 wagon that was involved in an accident. Someone rear ended me while I was waiting still for someone in front to make a left turn. It was totally their fault & my Passat was totalled. I loved that car & it made me furious over what happened, but that is a different rant. It had been fully paid off for 2yrs & it had only 73k miles so could of easily gone a lot longer. It never gave me any major problems so I am looking to probably get another one since I found it fun to drive as well.

Been looking at some 2006-2008 Jettas and Passats. I've noticed a few things though in comparison to my '03 Passat GLX (probably something I shouldn't do). Some don't have the steering wheel radio controls (audio and ch up/down). Also, I'm not seeing the homelink feature (for garage door openers) like I had on my GLX (in the visor).

Now, I'm sure its the trim level that I'm looking at is probably packages that didn't have these features to begin with. Is this the correct thinking? If so, I was wondering if it's possible to maybe get these features & somehow install them myself. On another board, someone mentioned how if the car has them available in a higher package, you might be able to find the parts at a junk yard and/or online place.

I see how ebay offers various VWhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adT...lass_10x10.gif visors with the 3 homelink buttons. Would I be able to get one of these and simply put it in myself? Or is there more to it then this? Or maybe I shoudl approach it another way. Also, what about steering wheel controls? Can those easily be added or would I maybe need a whole new steering wheel of some kind? Just wondering
