v8 in a passat???

v8 in a passat???
first time posting... I love VW's....
quick question,
I have a friend that complained about his fuel milage in his passat. He told me that it was due to the fact that it had a V8. I told him that there is no way the car has a V8. we put money on it.Unfortunately I cant pop the hood and look at his engine. SOOOO....
Has VW put a V8 in a Passat in the past five years? thanks for the help!
