Transmission Oil Pan
 

Hello all,

I have a 2000 VW Passat V6 GLS Sedan.

I bought this car from my sibling last month. Car was parked on the street since Jan 2009 because he said there was oil leak from the engine oil pan due to a crack. He admitted that while he was driving he dropped in a deep pot hole at that time. Pot hole cannot be seen since it was covered by snows. That's the story about the crack on Oil Pan and never drove the car since.

I took over it last month. Car was carried by a flat bed tow truck to a Volkswagen Onlyworkshop (not the dealer) in Queens, NYC. he charged me $300 and replaced the Engine Oil Pan. I took back the car and parked in my work garage for about 3 weeks. After I came back I saw the Oil Stains on the Floor. I thought it was the Engine Oil Pan leak again. I measured the Motor oil from dip stick, it was in normal range, So I took back the car to the VW mechanic again. He charged me $100 to refill the ATF. He said there is also a crack in Transmission Oil Pan need to replace too. I brought back the car to garage again and parked it for 2 weeks. Again all ATF dripped out on the floor. I was really stressed. I hunted around for the Part in Napa, junk yards. No one has it. Except the dealer. I called Vista VW in Pompano Beach, FL, they said it's about $425 for the part and they have to order it.

I need help with any ideas to make this car work so I can bring it to Florida for my daily commute. All your ideas will be appreciated.

Besides above mentioned problem, the car also needs brake works (rotars and pads are rusted), muffler works and I don't know what else more :(

I feel for you man that sounds like the crap shoot. I would help if I could, as I too have had my share of **** luck with my '02 passat 1.8T. I had to replace the engine on it and a day later the transmission went out and I bought it from my cousin. Needless to say I know what your going though. I called them Yes, finally the CSR found the Part. It wasn't listed under any category.

Here is my Question I just got.

Can I take it to a place & weld the Trans: Oil pan crack instead of replacing?

depends on the size of the crack and what type of aluminum it is. Cast or forged. It is possible that it can be welded you will just have the shop look at it. It is simply just holding fluid no pressure. So as long as it is welld and checked to be liquid tight, then it should be ok.
