problems at 2000 RPMs
It seems like my Passat is not shifting properly. it is a '99, automatic. Around 40mph and 60 mph, at 2000 rpm , there is a plateau in the power, and I have to pump the gas, or lay down hard on the gas, to get past 2000 rpm, and then we cruise along fine.
Sometimes I have had problems of it seeming to downshift when going slowly, resulting in lack of power, and a stuttering feeling.
What could this be? Big problem or an easy fix somewhere?
Also probably unrelated, when i turn the steering wheel at low speeds it creaks under the hood. maybe just needs more grease somewhere along there.
THANKS for any help!!

Go and get your transmission fluid and filter changed. If this is not functioning correctly, it will make your enginenot run correctly either and it will cause one or both of them to fail. It did this to me on my 02 passat. The engine was bad and after I replaced it and the next day the transmission went out because the transmission tried to compensate and when the engine failed and was replaced it caused the transmission to fail. Save yourself a lot of money and headaches and do the preventitive maintinace.
