Passatt rear brakes

Replaced the rear pads on my wifes 2003 Passat 4 Motion. Fairly straight forward but I had a very difficult time compressing
the piston. Is this system tied into the emergency brake somehow because it was easier to compress after I applied the
emergency brake. This does not make sense to me. thank you

RE: Passatt rear brakes

Hi
I have replaced the front brakes on my 04 Passat., and decided to kill two birds with one stone and do the rear brakes as well.

However I ran into a bit of difficulty, as I could not push the piston back to set the new pads- I see you had the same issue. So your telling me that if I put the emergency brake on, that I can push the psiton back and then place the new pads??? this is the last thing I would have done.

I eventually gave up and will attempt next weekend-

I'll try it
Thanks in advance

Dan

RE: Passatt rear brakes

Hard to compress the piston? :D Thats because they're threaded!! You could either strip a rear caliper and view the internals to see how it works or let someone who knows what they are doing fix the most important safety item on your car[:@] Do not compress the piston by pushing it in even with the handbrake applied. Get the tool for the job which winds the calipers back.
Thanks. You even made me register to say this.
