sorry to bother you guys but i have just bought a passatt 2001 2 litre petrol sport it is the 8 valve one there is oil in the water i have changed the oil cooler and still oil rises to the top of the water reservoir the car runs fine no over heating no loss of power or anything are the headgaskets prone to failure on this model thanks for your help

 

I have never heard of that. But, yes it is safe to assume youve got a blown head gasket.
