Passat Turbo

Im looking at 1999/2000 Passat models, and ive noticed the 1.8L are coming stock with turbo. Has anyone noticed a problem with the stock turbos with high miles??

RE: Passat Turbo

Do you live in the states? If so, be aware that many passat 1.8 owners do not change their oil with synthetic. As a result, many owners have had serious issues with oil sludge. 1.8 T engines are build to last, but they need careful maintenance. If you can find a well cared for example, make sure you use synthetic oil for the rest of its life. Also be aware of the unfortunate fact that VWs are expensive to repair. Passats are far more reliable than Jettas and Beetles, but should you experience a failed window lift, for example, it'll be pricey.

A 1999-2000 passat is a good buy, and as long as your very careful about ensuring that it's been maintained, you should have a great car for a long time after purchase.
