Exclamation Passat heater core HELP!!!

I own a 1996 Passat GLX VR6 and the heater core went. I bypassed it for the time being, but it is winter and not haveing heat sucks really bad. Not only is it really cold but my window doesn't defeost and I can't see half the time. So I bought one, and I got a service manual on how to do it. I am a pretty good mechanic when it comes to most things, but I've never had to do something this serious. It claims I need to take the entire dash board apart, and in order to do that, you have to: discharge the a/c, take out the Airbags, drill out the steering collum sheer bolts, then purchase new ones, and drop the steering collum. I was wondering if there is another way in, or if anyone knows if it isn't as hard as they make it sound. I was also wodering if somebody could explain exactly where it is so I could maybe just cut a hole In the underside of the dash to replace it, if possible. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!
