Oil in my water Passat 1.9 TDI 2001

Help Guys

I dida routine check of my oil and water yesterday and whenI undid the expansion tank cap i found it to be full of BLACK oil. There is no slugde andI drove 130 miles home the day before and the engine started and ran OK immediately prior to checking the levels.

My immediate thought was head gasket, but is there an oil cooler on the Passat diesel engine? (i hope)

Thanks:(

:DThanks Robert, I changed it this afternoon.

Thankfully a rather simple job and although it was an expensive part. It was still cheaper than ahead gasket job.

Just got to get all the oil out of the water system now [:'(]

Drain and Change both. But drain it well so as to not have any left over in the system. you may have gotten water in your oil too. not sure about diesels. hope it turns out well. BTW: thats only what I would do. If its too expensive or you dont thing its needed then do as you wish. not my car after all :P

hello. glad this fixed your prob. you may have to flush coolimg system a few times.use "forte" radiator flush it has a light detergent in it that will break down the oil. you may need to flush the heater matrix. just diconect the hoses and flush with garden hose..WATCH THE PRESSURE!!!!. cheers robert.g.:)
