My Passat died... help!

I recently purchased a 2004 Passat 1.8t with 146k miles on it and last night it died while driving about 25 mph through town. It has been running well except every once in a while when I get in the car it smells like gas and the check engine light came on the day before. It was running as normal and just died while driving so I coasted to the side of the road. When I try to restart it, it catches then idles pretty weakly and dies again. I need some help! What could this be? Is there something I can look for? Thanks!

Does it run rought like its misfireing? Remove the 4 coilpacs over the sparkplugs. inside ther are 4 connectors take a needlenose pliar and twist the 4 of them slightly. reassemble the car should run fine. you are getting a bad connection to the spark plug. Gas isnt being burned and that is what you smell good luck!
