hey guys i am currently looking at a 2001 vw passat wagon auto tiptronic with the v6 powerhouse. i have a few questions for owners previous owners on this make n model

1. is it nessisary to run 91 octain gasoline in this car

2 what is the life expectancy on these? when do they normaly die.. milage wise

3 i been reading reviews n there is a lot of comments about a engine sluge problem. could someone elaborate on this?

4 another complaint i have seen is electrical issues. what r your guys experance with this.

5 does it really cost more to maintain or repair a v w verses a usa made car?

i might post more questions as they come up but i cant think of any at the moment.

1- I always use plus 89 never had problem
2. every 60k miles (dealer recommended) max every 70k you need to replace timing belt and components (if dealer too expensive try to service at local shops who usually working on vw/audi or german cars they have their own way to get repair not every shop doing the right job in these days!!)
spend max couple hundred$$ get your self a registered vag-com so you don't need to gone crazy each time battery disconnected;))
3-DO NOT pass your oil change time.. fallow service maintenance schedule open your self a ecs tuning account;)good quality parts there
4 vag-com help you out if any electrical& electronic issues with point guide
5 American cars not cheap to maintain also ;)) they all the same now
