I have a 2006 passat 2.0t with about 54k on it. My problem is that my engine sounds rediculously loud lately at higher speeds. it has always been whisper quiet, but now it has just gotten to be extremely loud. It sounds like a normal engine running, no extra clinks or grinding or backfiring. Just an abnormally loud running sound. any ideas what this could be?

 

maybe an exhaust leak. maybe a bad gasket somewhere or a loose bolt. My car actually is quieter at higher speeds than at lower speeds
