Emissions Workshop

I have a 2000 passat wagon and i have a problem. This has been and ongoing thing. Everytime i turn on the car the check engine light comes on and it says Emissions work shop. I have brought in to a european auto shop and he fixed it. A week or two later the light came back on. The problem is that the car was bought in germany and shipped over here when we moved, so i don't know if the vw dealer will work on my car for the emissions. I heard this is a common problem and that their was a recall on certain parts. Read that it could be the vacuum hose or the o2sensor. A friend of mine said that the air to gas ratio might be of and that the car is running rich which is bad if it is to high. Can this lead to other problems? I am lost and need help, any suggestions.

RE: Emissions Workshop

I have a 2000 Passat GLX 4 Motion and when our Emission Workshop light came on, it ended up being the gas cap. The light went off about 3 days after we tightened it. I know this probably doesn't answer your question but I just wanted to respond with my personal experience. Good Luck!:D
