Default crank pulley on 1.8 turbo

hello everyone, i just picked up an 04 Passat that i was going to scrap but im having second thoughts on that. I picked up from a young man that was told that the crankshaft was falling out of it. In all actuality the crank pulley has fallen off making a hellacious noise in the engine bay.

Now i m not a vw person by any means, this car is in really good shape. i dont really want to scrap it, id like to see someone get some use out of it. Is this issue something common with these cars? Can anyone tell me if it is repairable or not?

Obviously we can't see what's happened. I'm not aware its a common fault.
