Clutch problem.. helppp please

HELP!!! please... got a 96 passat vr 6..
while driving today i pushed the clutch in. the cluth went mad loose. and it stuck in. and its broken now :( has this happen to anyone else? does anyone know what happen or why? my mechanic said over the phone something about the clyinder that open and closes the clutch.. but im completely lost. someone please help

Your Clutch was prob worned out.... How long did you have the clutch for?
