Best year for Passat
 

Hello all, I'm looking to purchase a used Passat wagon, any thoughts on different years being better than others? I'm looking to spend 8-10K. All advice is appreciated. Thanks

I think the market is full of options. You can try some second hand shops. And if someone here do possess it, he will come forward.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not looking for advice as to where to find a Passat, but rather some advice on things to look for, certain years not to buy, different engines not as reliable, maintanance issues etc.

Most used ones around here seem to be gas.

OK, update. My son and myself went yesterday to a independent car lot and test drove an 04 with 89K. 1.8L It drove pretty nice and over all I liked it a lot. It did have several mechanical issues, the worst being the tranny. When cruising at about 35-40 it seemed to hunt for a gear. Back and forth between 4th and 5th. I believe this could be the torque converter.They wouldn't come down on the price so we walked.

Tonight we are going to see an 03 with slightly over 100K-4cylinder also-private seller. Again any tips on this year as to known issues? thanks
