B5 Passat engine swap

Hello all thanks for letting me join. I am brand new to VW so please bare with me. My dad had half a dozen Rabbits and Jettas, all diesels, all died with more than 1/2 million km on them. He even got recognized by VW Canada for his extensive mileage. Anyway I need advice. I have a 2004 Passat 1.8T 4motion auto with an engine that 1 piston wont play with the others. I also have a 2005 Passat 2.0TDI auto FWD that, as soon as I get the new turbo put in, will run fine. It only has 160,000 km on it. Here is my question. Aside from fuel plumbing and ecu etc. will the 2.0 bolt to the 1.8 transmission? The TDI's body is really rough, lots of ventilation holes. The 1.8 is near perfect (minor cosmetics). I have heard there was never an awd Diesel in Canada. Any advice is appreciated.

I believe that it will bolt up, but, aside from all the other things you mentioned having to change, I think the gear ratios for the Gas and Diesels are quite different.

I'm hoping the final drive gear set in the Fwd trans is the same as the AWD except for ratio.
