Airbag Light not illuminating at all

Strange behaviour with airbag dash light......will not illuminate.
Most threads are concerned with removing light.
Turn on ignition...no light
Interrogated the airbag system with VAGCOM.......no faults
Interrogated instruments with VAGCOM........no faults
Any ideas?
