99 Passat - bad motor/turbo?

I have a 99 Passat 1.8L Turbo, 125,200 miles. I had the oil changed on 11/6. The oil pressure light started coming on 2 weeks later, we checked the oil, it was full but there is something that looks like plastic chips in the oil. I took it to the oil change place and they said the oil pressure was fine, that the chips was old oil and that maybe the computer just needed to be reset. From what I understand old oil would look like carbon, not plastic. It started smoking bad, and sometimes sounds loud like I don't have a muffler. I took it to a garage and they said they think the turbo has gone out, and it's throwing oil into the motor, that I would need a new turbo and motor and it would cost more than the car is worth ($5600.00). My son thinks there might be some of those plastic chips clogging something up and that we need to try and drain the oil, run some oil through it to clean it out, change the filter and refill it. It runs, we drove it home from the garage. Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone had this happen to them?

Sounds like you have the dreaded oil sludge problem. Best thing to do is run some Auto/RX in it. This may fix your problem. Check out the Auto/RX web site as to how it works and what it has done for others like you who have had the same problems.
