96 Passat GLX 2.8 VR6 Upgrades

Greetings!

Just picked up a garage kept 1996 Passat GLX with less than 40,000 miles on it's 2.8 liter VR6!!! Very exciting times! :)

Already ordered a K&N Filter for the car, and now I'm in the market for some new ignition wires and spark plugs. I read that both of those items should be replaced about every 30,000 miles. Mine are due. A lot of friends suggested getting Neuspeed wires, but I was reading that they use a special spark plug (non-resistor type) that cause noise and interference with the radio? I'm not looking to trick my car out all crazy, but I'd like some high quality wires and plugs that don't have the above mentioned symptoms.

My overall goal is to increase hp with simple upgrades and just take good care of my engine. Wolf in sheep's clothing. If anyone has any suggestions (I hear Bagel is great with VR6 tips) or other suggestions on other simple upgrades it would be greatly appreciated! I was a mechanic in the ARMY for 3 years and did it for another 2 years when I got out, so I'm pretty confident in my abilities under the hood. I'm just not trying to rip out camshafts and such.
