2008 Passat dies while driving

Hello, hoping to get some help before I have to take this in to the dealership again. I have a 2008 Passat, 2.0T that died on me 5 times yesterday while I was driving on the highway. However, the lights and radio remained working. It would start up again after sitting for about 5 minutes. Anyone else ever experience this or have helpful suggestions I can try before taking it into the dealership?

Welcome to the forum. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1.../VWwelcome.gif

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing.

I had the glow plug light flashing on my dash board yesterday, teh car performed ok for maybe 1mile then went into limp mode (drove but without any injection or power)

hopefully nothing too costly, but the garage are running diagnostics on it today.

2008 Passat Dies while driving - VW dealership results

This past monday the dealership told me it was my fuel pump and the injector causing this problem. $850 later I picked the car up and it drove normal until the next day when it died on me while driving again. This time it would never restart. however as before, the lights, radio, continued to work. I had it towed back to the VW dealership who has now decided that the problem is in the computer that reads the ignition key. They are telling me that for some reason my car is no longer acknowledging:confused: the key and that it will now cost me an additional $2100 to fix this problem. Have you ever heard of this with any VW products?

So the code that was showing on the computer was "EGR valve faulty"

The garage removed the valve to find it ok, deleted the code, did a quick clean, test drive and so far all is working as it should.

Lets see.

2100 to fix the computer?

Are they refunding your $850 you've already paid?
