2008 Passat 2.0Turbo Engine Oil Burning Problem!
Hi everyone, I have more than 40,000 miles on this car now. I am wondering anyone else has a same problem with this car.
So I realized that I burn the engine oil every 1,500-2,000 miles - even if put the full synthetic oil (almost 7 bottles!) I realized this problem around 25,000 - so here's how it goes.
Around 25,000miles - Engine oil pressure light on with a warning noise! (I didn't realize that I had to add more engine oil because I replaced filter / engine at around 23,000 - went to the dealership. They found no leak. They added more oils and come back after you put another 1,000 miles.
Around 27,000 miles - I realized the engine makes weird noises when lacking oil. I went back to the local mechanic, and he also counldn't find any leak - still doesn't know the cause.
Around 41,000 (today!) - I got my engine oil / filter replaced at 39,000 and I started to hear that cracking noise! I went to my mechanic and he added 4 more bottles of full synthetic oils.
....
My mechanic in my town says the best way is to check at every 1,000 miles and add oils. He says he saw this a lot in german cars with turbo engines. Also he says I can change filter only once a year (every 7,000-8,000) - is it true?
Anyone has similar experiences with this car? How did you guys solve this problem?
Thanks!
Kim

My 2006 Passat burns oil. There is no leak; I've had 3 different shops look for one. I will admit that my issue isn't nearly as severe as yours though. But I do always keep 2-3 quarts in my trunk to use when I need it. There is no consistent length of time that it runs low; I just have gotten in the habit of checking it every couple of weeks - then adding a quart (I use synthetic too). My passat had 170,000 miles on it. It's burned oil since day one. I know this doesn't provide you with a solution, but I was told by two dealers that Volkswagen's (especially turbo models) "just burn oil".
