2004 Passat Coolant Help

Hey guys - I have a 2004 Passat GLS that has been good to me over the years but having a slight trouble. The coolant tank appear to have 3 holes which 2 is pointed toward the front of the car while the third is pointing to ground which is located more toward back of the engine. Problem is, the car is overheating and steaming due to spraying of coolant as soon as the engine tries to cool itself. I think the problem is the third hole of the coolant tank doesn't have a rubber pipe attached to it so the coolant just sprays/leaks whenever the system is turned on. The tube I think is located toward the back of the engine but I can't find it easily. Any suggestions without taking to a shop and getting charged with an automatic $100 fee? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. Attachment 3051

I'm not sure which expansion tank you have fitted on your model therefore I don't know where this third pipe should be fitted. Obviously this pipe needs to connect to something.

See if you can find an image on Google images?

hi
you need to visually check the engine for coolant leaks.be sure to check around the water pump/...if you have no leaks, then it may in fact be a bad thermostat..replace the thermostat
