2004 2.8L 6 Cylinder Passat Oil Consumption
I was told today that my passat should consume about a quart of oil per 1,000 miles. That sounds like a lot of BS as every other car I've owned, heard about, the oil level barley drops between oil changes, including the also German model, Mercedes.
Does anyone have any facts on the Passat's oil consumption rates?

Actually what they meant was it is acceptable for a car to use a quart every 1000mi ..I have worked at several dealerships and it was the same all over , what you can do is complain to the local dealer rep about it and sometime the will address it , start now by keeping records of everytime you add oil and the mileage so you have somthing to show it is using that ammount . the dealer cant check somthing like this without keeping your car for several weeks and driveing it and trust me you dont want everyone just hopping in your car for joy rides at the dealer..

Passat oil consumption
I just bought a 2002 V6 wagon with ~90k on the clock and drove it from NJ to CA. It was at the full mark when I left, and 3000 miles later I just rechecked it and it was barely showing on the dipstick ! I didn't think to check it on the way over as I've never had a car that used this much oil. Seems to be a common issue on these engines from what I see on the web. Bit of a bummer, but overall I think the VW's are still a good buy.
Cheers.
Cheers.
