Strange query. I trade in used Passats and I am a bit of a freak about trip computers, especially the fuel consumption readings. I have recently encountered a quirk on two different 2002 Passats. Normally on startup, screen #1 (trip) starts off blank and the first reading appears at around 15 litres per 100kms and develops higher or lower depending on traffic and type of road. I can usually get a 2.8 down to 10.5-12 L/100 in town driving. However these 2 cars read 99.9L/100 at start-upand make it very hard to get it down to a sensible reading unless it is driven on a long journey. As it does this every time one re-starts after 2 hours parked, the bad effect on the consumption readingis cumulative. Has anyone else struck this and is there a way of re-setting the trip computer start-up?
