2001 Passat key programming
I want to buy one of these: Cool Keychain Alternative | Keyport, Inc.
I found a place that will cut the blank for $35, but they want $70 to program the key. Is there no way to do this on my own?

Weak. I found a shop that can cut the key and program them for about $100. I assume that is cheaper than a VW dealer.
