2000 passat tranny
 

Hey guys new here. I am looking into getting a car that goods better milage than my diesel truck for my 1000 mile trips back and forth to ND. I came across this ad and was wondering if anybody know what could be wrong with this and if it could be a cheap fix. Any info would be great thanks.

I have a 2000 Voltswagon Passat 2.8 liter 4motion. 177000 miles. Cars in great condition but will only shift into 1st and 2nd gear. I just replaced the transmission with a used tranny with only 60,000 miles on it. After replacing the Transmission the mechanic thought that the TCM Module was bad. So I replaced the TCM and it still will only go into 1st and 2nd gear. I dont think it is the transmission itself but I dont no? So unfortunatley I have over $4000.00 invested in it and can't afford to put any more money in it. The engine was replaced a couple of years ago by the former owner. The car is completely loaded with all options and besides the fact that it will only go into 2nd gear it is in great condition. I am firm on $1500.00

But isn't a 2000 Voltswagon Passat 2.8 liter 4motion petrol and 4 wheel drive so that won't be good on fuel con? I would look for a good TDI if I were you?

Yes it is all wheel drive. But if i could figure out what was wrong and it was a cheap fix it would be a very good deal on that car. I do really like all wheel drive since i live in montana and have a mile long drive way that may times is very difficult to drive up in the winter. I would love a TDI but i have had no luck finding one close that was in my price range. If anybody has any ideas what could be wrong with that tranny let me know. Thanks. Also if anybody knows of any good deals around montana on other vw's please let me know.

Well you could do with someone with VAG-COM\VCDS to give it an Autoscan to see it any error codes come up?
