1999 B5 Passat wagon - 2.8l V6 4Motion - fuel sender electrical connections

I have a dilemma:

I've replaced the fuel pump and was about to wire up the fuel-sender (large white cap) when I noticed that there are two lots of identical terminals on the underside.

I thought I was being really anally-retentive by taking photos of EVAH-REEE-THANG before / during / after dismantling ... but I didn't think to photograph the underside of the fuel-sender!

Both sets of leads that attach to the terminals have a black connector with blue and black cables that disappear into the fuel tank.

Both sets of leads are different lengths - so I can see which connector goes to which terminal (one's too short to reach the other).

The connectors will fit on the terminals either way around (i.e. if you turn the connector 180 degrees you can still fit it 'upside down').

Which way around do these cables attach - should the orientation be:

black-blue black-blue
or
black-blue blue-black
or
blue-black blue-black
or
blue-black black-blue?

Anybody able to help - it would be nice to get this wagon back on the road this weekend (she's only been garaged for the last ... mmm ... 1 1/2 years!!!)

Cheers.
