Default 04 Passat wont start

My 04 Passat wont start. I couldn't find problem so took to mechanic who said timing belt tensioner. He got In there and found wasn't the tensioner but was out of time by 4 timing teeth. Now saying we have damaged valves. He is getting no codes from control module. This just doesn't fit to me since I drove the car home the night before and made it all the way home then wouldn't start next morning. I think if this was problem chances are it would have just died right on the spot in rural Iowa instead of my driveway overnight. Any advice would be appreciated..Thanks

Have you got no record of the timing belt ever been changed, they should be changed at set intervals?

Post the error codes your mechanic found.

I'm not sure that 4 teeth out will cause any valve damage he needs to do a compression test or cylinder leakage test to confirm this damage.

Thanks for reply..Mechanic says wasn't able to get codes but compression test was done on cylinder 2 and had 30 psi. He recommended removal of cylinder head and taking to machine shop. But makes me nervous fact he couldn't recover the codes. Looking for opinions on what anyone else would do?? thanks

Not a lot until he recovers that 30 psi compression.

We are still waiting for https://volkswagenforum.com/forum/ne...gnature-34185/
