'03 v6 Passat, AT, 80k miles - irregular rpms at idle
Hey all.
Love my passat, and haven't had a single issue with it, til now. While waiting at a red I can feel the car move a little every few seconds. Looking at the tachometer needle I can see it is moving although I'm not touching the accelerator. Basically at idle (in drive) I'm at about 900rpms, but every 4-5 seconds it will suddenly drop to 800 and then shoot right back up to 900. If I change gears to park or neutral it still happens but it's much less noticeable. I don't notice it at all while the car is moving. My mechanic (whom I trust) can't explain why the rpms aren't steady. There are no fault codes. He thinks that maybe this has been happening for a while but it's only become noticeable now because my motor mounts have deteriorated to the point that the engine is moving, and thus moving the car. Just replacing worn mounts seems to be treating the symptom instead of addressing whatever the issue is. Any ideas? Thanks. |
Hey hey great idea! That way people can name their tanks for visitors to see! Once again great idea!
