Low Oil Pressure Light-02 Passat-Oil Sludge-Noisy Valves
Just a little info-- I bought a 02 four cylinder turbo passat wagon a year ago. Thru the year the low oil pressure light was coming on and telling me to stop engine. It was intermittent. I was changing oil every 2-3000 miles, it would clear but come back. Finally the other day the light stayed on and the valves were really clacking. I took it to 3 different mechanics and they all said either spend a $1-2G's on troubleshooting or replace engine. One was a VW mechanic. I did some searching on line and phone and found a mechanic near me who specialized in VW and Audi's. He was a God send. Right when I mentioned 02 Passat he rang off what the problem was. He told me what was wrong before I could tell him the whole story. ( Auto Mall Service--Norwood, Ma.) My car was fixed in one day. The problem was the clogged oil pan screen. I asked about the oil pump. The oil pump never fails. Which was true. The only draw back was, the only way to get to oil pan screen was to lift motor slightly. German engineering? The oil pan was cleaned of sludge, new oil pan screen($70.00) Total repair $800.00 Labor. Also advice, change oil every 2-3000 miles, 05-40 oil synthetic.
