wont start!! clutch might not be engaging

So my 98 jetta gt will not start. I think it has to do with the clutch not engaging or something. Nothing happens at all when I turn the key. anyone have a clue what it is? I just cant figure it out with this haynes manual that I have.

Either charge or replace the battery. Do you get any lights? Is there nothing no where, no accessories turn on? If that's the case, then check the starter, and then check your clutch cable.

might have a bad switch on the clutch pedal
hyd. system so you dont have a cable
if you have a test light you could check the small wire on the starter for power when you are cranking the key over

I was told by some people here it might be that switch. I'm just not sure exactly where to find that switch. Is it under the hood or inside on the floor?
