Unhappy Warning Relay??

Hi, sorry if this has been said before as Im totally new to this forum. I own a 1998 2.0L Jetta 65k miles and was wondering if any other Jetta owners have come across this problem.

Just the other day I started my car to go to work and noticed that the chime sound that comes on after turning my key continued to stay on ( usually goes away after 4 or 5 seconds) and stayed on for the entire ride to work and back. The noise will also become scratchy if i sometimes flick my lights on and off or slam my front drivers door extremely hard. When i shut the car off the noise subsides.

I decided to do some research and read that this noise is coming from a warning relay. I looked under the fuse panel and saw the giant relay with the grill/speaker on its top and pulled it out. The chime went away but im concerned about what this relay is suppose to actually do since its called a warning relay im not sure if its warning me about something or just malfunctioning.

Its a 1HM 919 433 A Relay

Any advice is really appreciated to put my mind at ease.

That relay won't actually cause any problems if you took it out. It's connected with all the door switches, so when you open one the sound will come on. But it sounds like is time to replace it. You might be able to find it at your local junk yard or even try looking on ebay.
