Transmission Swap

Will a transmission from a 96 passat vr6 with the 2.8L engine work with a 99 jetta vr6 with the 2.8l engine?

elrocco88 07-08-2010 12:59 PM

Yeah, it should work. Do you have the mk3 or mk4??

Vr6er 07-08-2010 01:06 PM

what does that mean? I just know its an automatic transmission

Vr6er 07-08-2010 01:10 PM

The passat is a 96 glx vr6

Vr6er 07-08-2010 01:11 PM

ok the passat is an MK4

elrocco88 07-08-2010 01:18 PM

I mean, do you still have the old style jetta or the newer...?? In the middle of 99 VW started making the new jetta's.
It should work out because it was the same transmission that they used for the Jettas..

Vr6er 07-08-2010 01:55 PM

The Jetta looks like the older style

Vr6er 07-08-2010 01:56 PM

THanks for the info elroco. I have tried removing the motor and transmission mount. Well, was not that easy for me though. But I have searched for guides and DIY's for it.
