Default Transmission slipping

Hello everyone and thanks ahead for any HELPFUL feedback. I drive a 1998 Jetta Wolfsburg with and automatic transmission (got tired of looking for a standard, apparently few real drivers remain ). Anyway, for the first 20 minutes or so of driving the transmission tends to slip when shifting into first gear. The problem seems to be worse when the weather is cold.
I was just curious whether anyone else has had the same problem and if so what had to be done to fix it. Thanks for your time.

Default Transmission slipping

The vent for the transmission is located on the top of the transmission case about 1/3rd of the way down from the bell housing and slightly to the driver side of the case. That is an interesting problem...
