the wiring harness to my neutral safety switch melted away so i was wondering if it was possiable that if there was a wiring proble there if that would have any effect on my car not shifting into over drive it is a 96 2.0l auto thanks for your input

 

I think the nuetral safety switch just lets you shift out of park?? I'm not sure if that would make it not shift into overdrive, but I would call the VW dealership and ask what that sensor controls.
